The paint chip clinic held at Monterey Touring Vehicles was a big hit. Andrew from A Brilliant Shine in Carmel Valley came in and showed us how to tackle those nasty rock chips.
After cleaning the work area with alcohol, he prefers to use paint from Dr Rockchip since it spreads more easily and dries faster than the paint from the dealer. With that, he uses teeny paint brushes from a detail shop or insulin syringes from Costco. In some cases the paint can be applied with a gloved finger. He started with some rock chips on Mark’s Boxster. After demonstrating his procedures, he had Mark do it himself, then a few other members participated.
From there he moved on to Al’s car, which is a little more of a challenge since it’s white and there are many shades of white. After working on a deep scratch on Al’s car and a few rock chips, he moved on to Kristi’s black Land Rover, which had a scrape from an unknown white car on the driver’s side front fender. The front bumper had been painted at a different time than the rest of the car, but that didn’t affect Andrew’s treatment, which resulted in removing the white paint from the black car and treatment of a scratch.
By this time it was time for lunch, which was catered by Michael’s in Pacific Grove. The Mexican food was appreciated by everyone!
