2026 Big Sur Tour 2

On Sunday, February 22nd, we held our second tour this year to Big Sur (also known as the Ed Havey Memorial Tour). A second tour was needed to accommodate the large number of attendees. This is a good indication of the growth of the Club and the interest in club events. We met at The Crossroads in Carmel, signed in, held our drivers’ meeting and headed out.

The route was straightforward: head south on Highway 1 for 24 miles. The first group of cars was led by Steve Fields and the second group by Mark McMahon. The drive should have taken 40 minutes but there was a one-way traffic control near Point Sur due to road damage from last week’s storms which added a few minutes. Otherwise, traffic was light.

For this tour, we returned to our traditional destination, the Big Sur River Inn. It’s always been a comfortable and enjoyable restaurant for Sunday brunch for our members. This year, instead of the usual buffet and sitting together, we ordered off the menu and sat wherever we wanted. It seemed to work out well.

A Gorgeous Day for a Drive – photo by Steve Fields

The day was so beautiful (perfect to put the top down) that, after breakfast, Steve Fields hosted a drive further south to where Highway 1 was previously closed.

All in all, it was a wonderful way to enjoy a Sunday on our beloved Central Coast…

Thanks to Mark for arranging our tour.
