High-Altitude Adventures: A Porsche Club Journey to Yosemite

The rumble of a dozen Porsche engines signaled the start of an unforgettable weekend, as members gathered at the Windmill market at the crisp hour of 7:30 a.m. Our first stop was the Castle Air Museum, where Air Force veteran John captivated the group with a two-hour tour. Surrounded by aviation history, we marveled at the impressive collection of aircraft on display, from a colossal B-52 Stratofortress to sleek fighter jets. Lunch at Yosemite Crossing refueled the drivers—and yes, delicious cookies were definitely involved!

With the afternoon sun on our backs, the convoy began its ascent into the Sierra Nevada mountains, pausing briefly in Oakhurst before reaching the stunning Tenaya Lodge just outside the national park’s gate. A few more members joined the group, and the evening unfolded into personal adventures—some gathered for s’mores by the fire, others enjoyed the pool, and many found a quiet spot for stargazing.

The next morning, the engines awoke at a more leisurely hour, ready to tackle the main event: Yosemite National Park. As the Porsches roared through the iconic Wawona Tunnel and into Yosemite Valley, the sheer scale of the granite walls took everyone’s breath away. In a stroke of luck, a row of prime parking spots awaited the group. After stretching their legs—with some members taking a walk to view the majestic Upper Falls—the group toured the rest of the Valley, exiting through the Big Oak Flat gate on the way to Groveland.

Our final stop was the Around the Horn Brewery, which provided a bit of unexpected roadside drama with a pickup truck that had unfortunately caught fire nearby. Undeterred, the club enjoyed a well-deserved lunch and cold drinks before topping up their tanks and pointing their Porsches west, carrying unforgettable memories back to the Monterey Bay Region.
