NOTICE: Change of Plans for Elkhorn Slough Tour this Sunday

I am looking forward to our Tour this weekend, but the weather and high wind forecast have caused us to make some changes to the starting time for the Boat Tour and the meeting time for the Lunch.

High winds have been forecast for Sunday afternoon, and that may cause the cancellation of the Boat Tour at 3:00 pm, and most likely a very uncomfortable experience if we kept the same time for this event. Because of that, we have rescheduled the Boat Tour for the morning with lunch as previously planned and the driving tour in the afternoon, as detailed below. The benefit of starting earlier will be calm water, little or no wind, and a richer experience that takes place during the early morning hours on the Slough.

THE BOAT TOUR

The Boat Tour participants of our Tour to Elkhorn Slough will begin by meeting promptly at 8:15 am at Chili’s restaurant in Seaside on Sunday, May 18th. We will have our driver’s meeting and signing of Waivers at 8:30 am, and depart at 8:45 am. Because we will need to be on the Boat by 9:15 am we request that you arrive on time. A Jacket, sun screen, and camera are recommended. Food and beverages are also permitted to be brought on the boat. The weather is estimated to be approximately 61 degrees.

After the tour will proceed north directly to the Sea Harvest Restaurant for our Lunch reservation at 11:30 am.

LUNCH TOUR

Participants who have signed up for the Lunch Tour will meet at the Sea Harvest Restaurant at 11:15 am. The restaurant has reserved a very special waterfront dining room for us to enjoy during our lunch at 11:30 am. I have attached a copy of the menu at Sea Harvest for your review. It will be very helpful if you decide what you plan to order so that we will be able to complete the ordering of our lunch in a timely manner and stay on schedule. After placing your order, you will pay for your meal, and be given a buzzer that will call you when it is ready. We expect to finish lunch between 12:30 and 1pm.

After lunch, we will proceed with the driving Tour though the Prunedale hills and ending at the Elkhorn Slough Preserve at about 2:30. Those who are interested may take one of several hikes on the slough property. Others may enjoy the visitor center or head home.

In the event that these changes to our original plans interfere with your schedule and you are not able to attend either the Boat Tour or the Lunch, please notify me no later than Friday at noon so we may provide an accurate count for the Boat operator and the restaurant. We appreciate your understanding of these required changes due to the weather forecast.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

See you Sunday

The Tour to Elkhorn Slough will begin at 10am at Chili’s restaurant in Seaside on Sunday, May 18th . We will have our driver’s meeting at 10:15 and depart at 10:30. The tour will proceed north to Castroville and then to Elkhorn Road. After a few miles of beautiful turns and views, we will stop for a break at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve that we visited last year. We will stay for 30 minutes so participants can learn a bit more about the Slough, walk out to the lookout for a view of where we will be traveling later in the afternoon and use the facilities if needed. Special thanks to our President Mark who developed and test drove the driving part of our Tour.

We will depart the Reserve about 11am and drive more wonderful roads through North Monterey County. Eventually, the drive will take us into Pajaro, where we will turn South and head to Highway 1. Depending on traffic on this narrow stretch of the highway, we will arrive in Moss Landing and the Sea Harvest Restaurant between 12:30 – 12:45. The restaurant has reserved a very special waterfront dining room for us to enjoy during our lunch at 1pm. We will depart Sea Harvest about 2:30 for a short drive to ECO Tours for our excursion onto the slough. A Jacket and hat are recommended and a camera is a very good idea! Food and beverages are also permitted.

I have attached a copy of the menu at Sea Harvest for your review. It will be very helpful if you decide what you plan to order so that we will be able to complete the ordering of our lunch in a timely manner so that we can stay on schedule. After placing your order, you will pay for your meal, and be given a buzzer that will call you when it is ready.

I have attached a copy of the directions from the restaurant to Monterey Eco Tours (located just down the street where Phil’s Restaurant/Fish Market was before they moved) where we will depart for the 1 1/2 hour tour of the Slough. Please make sure to park on the street because the gravel parking lot is reserved for patrons of the adjacent restaurant. The boat will depart promptly at 3:00 PM. Beverages (including beer and wine) and food may be brought on and consumed during the tour.

Lunch will be each Attendees Responsibility and is not included in the cost.

Price for the Tour will be $30.00 per person.
Maximum attendance will be 32 persons…the capacity of the Eco Tours Boat. As an option, you can do the drive, have lunch but skip the Elkhorn Slough Tour.
