2026 Springtime Sojourn

The 2026 Springtime Sojourn, led by Ted Voigt, assembled as usual at the Windmill Market in San Juan Bautista, on Saturday, April 18. We had a total of 19 cars, who were placed in two groups.

From San Juan Bautista we headed towards Hollister on Highway 156, then took the Union Road shortcut to Highway 25, where we headed south. We went through the communities of Tres Pinos and Paicines, then got into the winding, twisty parts of Highway 25. Eventually we got to King City Road in the Bitterwater area, and took that west to King City, going through rolling foothills, then the flat agricultural areas on the way.

Arriving in King City, we parked in the plaza behind the Cork and Plough Restaurant, where we had lunch scheduled. Once parked, a battery box concours was held, where members volunteered to have their battery boxes inspected by four judges, with Dave Aliotti as chief judge. Bribes to the judges were not accepted. A short flag ceremony was also held before breaking for lunch.

Members had selected their preferred menu items in advance, including pork sliders, French dip sandwiches, Ahi tuna, salad with salmon and hamburgers. After lunch, the winners of the battery box concours were announced and ribbons were awarded – Mike Guarino won first place, Steve Fields won second place, and Peter Baird won third place.

When everyone was ready, the group packed up and headed for Mission Soledad, where Ted had tasty tidbits ready for us for desert. Those inclined were able to tour the mission, including the area behind the present building where previous structures once stood. Monterey Bay Region presented a donation to the Mission in recognition of the work they are doing and as thanks for the opportunity to have a rest stop there.

From the Mission, members were able to find their own way home.

A big thank to Ted Voigt for organizing such an enjoyable event and the many members who helped in its success.
