17 High Sierra Drive and Dine, July 17 (Peaks and Valleys Drive) Escape the valley July heat and enjoy a beautiful drive along the Yuba River. We will drive through gold rush towns of Camptonville and Downieville, then up to the Sardine Lake Resort ( for an evening dinner. Sardine Lake is nestled at the base of the SierraButtes at an elevation of about 6,000 ft. At the eastern edge of the lake is the Sardine Lake Resort, ( a small family-run lodge and cabins started in 1941. The area is renowned for fishing, hiking, birding, wildflowers and scenic beauty. Not to mention the great car photo ops. In the summer, the family offers full menu of excellent dinners and fine wine. For this event the 356CAR group has reservations for 32 individuals at 6 pm. Along the way we will stop (2 pm) at the Kentucky Mine Historic Park and Museum where participants can join a group tour of the mine and see an actual stamp mill working. This is a chance to see and hear the sounds of a working gold mine. For more information visit
The event will leave the Auburn Target store parking lot on Wednesday July 17 at 11:30am. Target is located at the corner of Bell Rd and Hwy 49 on the north side of Auburn. The mine tour will be at 2pm and dinner at Sardine Lake will begin at 6pm. The drive home will be at your choice. Some return on Hwy 49 others have preferred to return on Hwy 89 to Truckee and I-80 back to the valley. Sunset will be approximately 8:30pm that day. There is no limit on the number of cars making the drive, however there is a limit of 32 people for dinner.
