On October 8th we are heading to Elkhorn Slough Reserve for a tour led by Mark Mc Mahon. We will meet at the Chili’s Restaurant Parking Lot, 1349 Canyon Del Rey Blvd, Seaside, CA 93955 (where Cars and Coffee meets) at 9:30 in the morning.

Social time and collect liability waiver signatures until 10am, when we will have a drivers’ meeting to discuss the tour. We will depart about 10:30 and Mark will lead the group. We will drive north on Hwy 1 to Castroville where we will turn inland and enjoy the winding roads through this community for about an hour ending up at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve, 1700 Elkhorn Rd, Castroville, CA 95012.

One of the staff of the Reserve will give us a short presentation on Elkhorn Slough and tour of the Visitor Center and then we will have a picnic lunch at our reserved spot (already arranged with the staff at the Reserve). Attendees should bring a picnic lunch with items to share if desired.  After lunch, those who would like to go for a hike at this beautiful park can do so. I know a number of easy trails with great views. Those who prefer not to go hiking, may stay and visit or return home.

After the hike, the rest of us will leave as the tour comes to an end. Mark will lead those who stay back on some more winding roads to Monterey area.
